The Trump phone, officially named the T1, has generated considerable buzz since its announcement in June 2025. However, after a week of testing the device, it’s clear that this phone is more of a marketing gimmick than a serious competitor in the smartphone market.
Design Flaws and Build Quality of the T1
The T1 Phone’s design leaves much to be desired. It features a curved slab of cheap gold plastic that resembles a knockoff accessory rather than a premium smartphone. The gold finish, while shiny, feels tacky and unpleasant to the touch. Upon arrival, my unit even had a tiny scratch in the top-right corner.
The phone’s excessively curved waterfall display appears outdated, and the angular frame juts uncomfortably into the palm. Design missteps are evident throughout, including an American flag logo missing a stripe and the awkward placement of the “Trump Mobile” branding in two different orientations and fonts. The irregular spacing of the camera lenses is particularly frustrating.
Performance Issues and Hardware Limitations
Despite some redeeming features, such as a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot, the T1’s performance is severely lacking. Many users expect a smartphone at this price point—$499—to deliver more than just basic functionality. The T1 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, but it often feels sluggish, especially when switching between apps.
