A firmware update has rendered some Philips Hue Bridge Pro smart hubs inoperable, according to a report from Ars Technica. Users have been experiencing issues since late June, following the installation of firmware version 2071353020, which was intended to enhance device performance.
Details of the Firmware Issue
Reports began surfacing in late June about Hue Bridge Pro devices displaying a solid red LED light after the firmware update. One Reddit user, statelymachine, expressed frustration, stating, "My Hue Bridge Pro updated a few days ago, and I immediately got the solid red light. I ordered a replacement because I didn’t feel like dealing with a support agent, but now I see what a pain it’s going to be to reset my 50+ lights to attach them to the new bridge. … I’m pissed."
A representative from Signify, the parent company of Philips Hue, confirmed that the firmware update had caused the malfunction, noting that the issue affects users who disabled automatic updates and manually installed the firmware after it had been stored on the device for over 10 days.
Impact and Customer Response
According to Signify, fewer than 100 Philips Hue Bridge Pro devices have been impacted. The spokesperson stated, “We have identified a firmware issue affecting a limited number of Philips Hue Bridge Pro devices under a very specific software update scenario.” The spokesperson did not provide further details on the root cause of the issue.
