A four-month-old Palestinian boy, Ahmad Marouf Zeid, died on Sunday evening after an Israeli military checkpoint near Ramallah obstructed his urgent medical transfer. The incident highlights ongoing restrictions on Palestinians' access to healthcare, as reported by Laila Ghannam, the governor of Ramallah and el-Bireh.
Israeli Checkpoints and Healthcare Access
According to Ghannam, the Israeli forces prevented the transfer of Ahmad for over an hour despite his critical condition. She described the situation as “a stain on the conscience of humanity,” attributing it to an Israeli policy aimed at restricting Palestinians' freedom of movement.
Israeli soldiers reportedly fired tear gas to deter Palestinians from passing through the Deir Ammar checkpoint, exacerbating the already dire healthcare access issues in the region. This incident is part of a broader pattern of violence and restrictions that have escalated since the onset of hostilities in Gaza more than 1,000 days ago.
Recent Violence in the West Bank
On the same day, a 16-year-old boy was shot dead by Israeli forces at the Qalandiya refugee camp, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The situation remains tense, with two other boys, both aged 14, reported injured in the incident.
