The New England Revolution announced on Monday that they have extended the loan of Matt Turner, the United States men's national team goalkeeper, from Ligue 1 side Lyon until the end of 2026. This agreement also includes an option to further extend the loan through 2027 and an option to acquire Turner's contract outright.
Chris Tierney, the Revolution's general manager and chief soccer officer, expressed enthusiasm about the agreement, stating, "We are thrilled to reach an agreement with Lyon that will allow us to keep Matt Turner in New England Revolution colors for years to come. Matt's performances on the pitch here in MLS or on the world stage with the U.S. Men's National Team speak for themselves." Tierney emphasized his belief that Turner will continue to be the gold standard for MLS goalkeepers.
Matt Turner's Career Highlights
Turner has made notable contributions to both his club and country. He recently completed his second World Cup with the USMNT, where he played 90 minutes in the team's 3-2 defeat to Türkiye. Since his international debut in 2021, Turner has made 55 appearances for the national team.
Before rejoining the Revolution on loan last August, Turner had a successful stint with the club, previously winning the 2021 Supporters' Shield. His journey in professional football began with a loan to the Richmond Kickers before making his MLS debut in 2018.
