Andoni Iraola, appointed as Liverpool's new head coach on June 5, 2023, is focused on proving his worth at the club. The 44-year-old Basque coach emphasized the need to reconnect the team with its supporters during his unveiling at Anfield.
Iraola's Humble Approach to Liverpool
At his unveiling, Iraola stated, “I need to prove myself and get everyone to know that I belong here, that I have the level to coach Liverpool.” He acknowledged the significant leap from his previous role at Bournemouth, where he secured European qualification for the first time in the club’s history.
Iraola, who took over following the sacking of Arne Slot, understands the challenges ahead, including replacing key players and managing injuries. Despite these hurdles, he expressed confidence in the squad's potential, stating, “In my opinion, we have a very good squad.”
Building Connections with Fans
One of Iraola’s primary goals is to foster a strong connection between the team and the supporters. “We have to make Anfield a very uncomfortable place to come,” he said, emphasizing the importance of energy and dynamic play. He aims for the team to play aggressively, both on and off the ball, to dominate matches at home.
