Didier Deschamps expressed confidence in the officiating for the World Cup quarter-final match between France and Morocco on Thursday, despite the appointment of Argentinian referees. Deschamps stated, "We have to deal with it. I trust the referees. Our opponent is Morocco, not the referee." His remarks come as both teams prepare for a critical match that could lead to a rematch against Argentina, the defending champions.
Deschamps' Confidence in Referees
Deschamps' comments were made during a press conference where he addressed criticism surrounding the officiating choices. He referenced François Letexier, the French referee who oversaw Argentina's last-16 victory over Egypt, saying, "Let’s hope ours are as good as Monsieur Letexier was." This statement highlights Deschamps' focus on the game rather than the officials.
Despite the controversy, Deschamps insists that the team must concentrate on the match itself. "Integrity has been a recurring theme recently," he added, acknowledging the scrutiny surrounding the referees appointed for this match.
Morocco's Ambition and Challenges
Morocco's coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, emphasized his team's goal of winning the World Cup. Ouahbi stated, "We have to think about winning this game. The only bonus is winning the World Cup." He downplayed any significance from their previous semi-final encounter in 2022, noting that both teams have evolved since then.
