Andre Onana has officially rejoined Turkish club Trabzonspor on loan for the 2026-27 season, as announced on July 3, 2026. The Manchester United goalkeeper will not have a buy option in this agreement, but Trabzonspor will cover all of his wages during the loan period. Additionally, the Turkish side will pay United a loan fee along with various add-ons.
Details of Onana's Loan Agreement
The loan agreement for Onana, a 30-year-old Cameroon international, is subject to international clearance and registration. Last season, Onana made 29 appearances for Trabzonspor after being loaned out by United following a disappointing EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town in August 2025. This defeat marked Onana's only match for Manchester United that season.
During his time at Trabzonspor, Onana contributed significantly, helping the team secure the Turkish Cup for the first time since 2020. His previous transfer to United from Inter Milan in 2023 was valued at £47.2 million.
Manchester United's Goalkeeping Situation
With Onana's return to Trabzonspor, Manchester United faces uncertainty in their goalkeeping department. Senne Lammens is currently the first-choice keeper under head coach Michael Carrick, while the future of backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir remains unclear. As Lammens is with the Belgium squad for the World Cup, young goalkeeper Radek Vitek is also exploring options to secure a move before the pre-season training begins.
