Viola Davis and Julius Tennon's JuVee Productions has signed a first-look deal with Universal Global Television (UGT), as announced on Friday. This partnership aims to develop and produce new series under the recently formed studio, which combines UCP and Universal International Studios.
Details of the First-Look Deal
Under the terms of the agreement, JuVee Productions will create original content for UGT, enhancing the studio's growing slate of projects. The deal follows UGT's previous signing of an overall agreement with Megan Gallagher, the creator of All Her Fault, who has multiple projects underway at the studio.
The first project from JuVee under this partnership is titled Pawn, a romantic drama adapted from a short story by Kennedy Ryan, known for her bestselling novel, Before I Let Go. The adaptation will be led by Chantelle M. Wells, who has a notable background in series like Daredevil: Born Again and Yellowjackets.
About the Project Pawn
Pawn tells the story of Gina Jones, a woman who becomes a 'pawn' for a St. Louis crime family in exchange for funds to cover her grandmother's medical expenses. As she navigates this dangerous underworld, Gina finds herself drawn to Drayden, the heir of a rival crime family, complicating her life further.
