Ukraine has firmly denied any involvement in the Nord Stream pipeline explosions that occurred in September 2022, according to a statement from the country’s prosecutor general on November 28, 2025. This assertion comes as a former Ukrainian soldier, Serhii K., is on trial in Germany, facing charges of masterminding the blasts as a co-perpetrator of a war crime.
Details of the Ongoing Investigation
The Ukrainian prosecutor general stated that their investigation has found no evidence linking Kyiv to the explosions, either through official entities or individual officials. “At the same time, the investigation into these circumstances is not yet complete, and the necessary evidence is still being gathered and examined,” the prosecutor general's office noted.
To further clarify the situation, the prosecutor general has proposed forming a joint investigation team with German authorities. The office emphasized its commitment to cooperating with Germany in uncovering the full facts of the case.
Background on the Nord Stream Pipelines
The Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were designed to transport Russian gas to Germany and other European nations. The blasts that targeted these pipelines rendered them inoperable just months after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The explosions occurred amidst heightened tensions and sanctions against Russia, aimed at curbing its oil exports.
