The U.K.'s National Film and Television School (NFTS) has announced a new partnership with Angels Costumes and John Gore Studios to introduce a postgraduate degree in costume design for film and television. This initiative aims to address the increasing demand for skilled costume designers and department heads in the screen industries. The first cohort of 10 students will begin their studies in January 2027.
Details of the New Costume Design Course
The two-year program is designed to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in costume design. The NFTS has developed this course in response to insights from industry professionals highlighting a significant skills gap in costume design.
Students will engage in hands-on learning and work closely with experienced mentors from the industry. The curriculum will cover various aspects of costume design, including research, design, and production techniques, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to enter the workforce.
Industry Support and Collaboration
Angels Costumes, a leading costume house, brings invaluable resources and expertise to the program. Their collaboration with the NFTS is expected to enhance the learning experience by providing students access to an extensive collection of costumes and textiles.
