England manager Thomas Tuchel expressed frustration on Saturday regarding the lack of communication from FIFA concerning the two-game suspension of defender Jarell Quansah. This suspension followed Quansah's red card during the World Cup match against Mexico, which ended in a 3-2 victory for England.
Quansah's Suspension Details
Quansah received a straight red card after a VAR review for an ankle-high challenge on Jesus Gallardo during the match. Typically, such dismissals result in a one-game ban; however, the severity of the foul led to an upgraded suspension of two games. Tuchel indicated that England has yet to receive an explanation from FIFA regarding this decision.
“We also have no explanation,” Tuchel stated when asked if his previous comments about officiating influenced the suspension. This incident has drawn attention amid ongoing criticism of FIFA's handling of player suspensions, particularly following the controversial year-long suspension of Folarin Balogun for a separate incident.
England's Preparation for Norway
As England prepares for their quarter-final match against Norway, Tuchel confirmed that despite Quansah's absence, he received positive news on player fitness. Key players Declan Rice, Marc Guehi, and Reece James have all returned to training, boosting the squad ahead of the crucial clash.
“We had everyone available in training. That's the best news,” Tuchel remarked. The team is looking to build on their recent performance, having progressed through the knockout stages despite facing challenges during their last match.
