Russian missiles struck Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, for the third time in just under a week, resulting in at least seven fatalities across several regions, including Kharkiv and Mykolaiv, according to Ukrainian officials. The attacks occurred overnight on July 7, 2026, amid escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
Details of the Recent Attacks
On July 7, Russian forces unleashed a barrage of air strikes, deploying dozens of drones and missiles against Ukraine, with a significant focus on its capital. Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted over 80 percent of the 169 drones launched, but were unable to stop five ballistic missiles, as reported by the Ukrainian Air Force.
The overnight assault led to the death of a woman and injuries to two others in Kyiv, as stated by Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration. In the southern region of Mykolaiv, a mother and daughter lost their lives due to guided aerial bombs, and further casualties were reported in Kharkiv and Kherson.
Ukraine's Response to Russian Aggression
In retaliation, Ukraine executed its own strikes deep into Russian territory, targeting industrial sites. The governor of Saratov region confirmed that a Ukrainian drone attack resulted in one death and damage to civilian industrial areas. Additionally, Ukrainian drones struck nine Russian tankers in the Sea of Azov, indicating a strategic shift in Ukraine's military operations.
