On July 6, 2026, Katie Couric revealed that she suffered an episode of Transient Global Amnesia in June, initially alarming her family into believing she was experiencing a stroke. Couric shared her unsettling experience in a Substack post titled "A Day I’ll Never Remember." The incident took place while she was visiting Aspen, Colorado.
Katie Couric's Day Before the Amnesia Episode
Couric described her Saturday morning as typical. She walked to the local farmer's market to buy iced coffee and fresh produce. "There was nothing all that unusual about that Saturday morning," she wrote. During her outing, she purchased peaches, nectarines, kettle corn, and a straw hat.
After returning to the condo, she enjoyed a bowl of cereal with one of the peaches and prepared for an event at the Aspen Ideas Festival. Wearing a white linen suit and a navy and white knit sleeveless shirt, she felt excited for the day ahead. Couric's husband, John, accompanied her to the festival, where they planned to grab lunch from a popular hot dog stand.
The Moment of Confusion
However, Couric's memories abruptly ended with her lunch plans. "That’s the last thing I remember," she stated. The sudden onset of confusion led her family to suspect a stroke, prompting immediate medical attention.
