Novak Djokovic has confirmed his intention to compete at Wimbledon next year, despite a straight sets loss to Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals on Friday. Djokovic, who will turn 40 during the tournament, expressed confidence in his ability to compete at a high level, stating, "I’m still able to play as a top-five player."
Djokovic's Semi-Final Performance
In the semi-final match, Djokovic faced world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and lost with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Despite the defeat, Djokovic remained optimistic about his performance throughout the tournament. "Losing in straight sets against the best player in the world, OK, it is what it is," he said. "But the tournament was positive in terms of the attitude on the court, the fighting spirit, the dedication. I mean, it’s still there."
Djokovic highlighted that his body held up well during the tournament, which was a significant improvement compared to previous competitions where he faced physical challenges. He noted, "I feel when I’m healthy, I’m still able to play as a top-five player, still able to compete at the highest level."
Looking Ahead to Wimbledon 2024
When asked about his plans for next year, Djokovic responded, "I would like to, at least one more time. Let’s see." He reflected on his recent results, mentioning that he reached one final and one semi-final out of three Grand Slam tournaments this year. Djokovic stated, "For 99% of the players, that would be a very good grand slam result. For me, it’s good but not good enough."
