Lewis Hamilton expressed disappointment after Ferrari's lackluster performance at the Austrian Grand Prix on July 2, 2023. Following a euphoric win in Spain, Hamilton finished fifth at the Red Bull Ring, as Mercedes driver George Russell claimed victory from pole position.
Ferrari's Performance in Austria
Hamilton noted that Ferrari's struggles serve as a reality check for the team. He stated, “We have a good car but are down on pace,” highlighting the challenges they faced compared to their competitors. Ferrari drivers finished in fifth and eighth positions, showcasing a stark contrast to their previous race.
Despite the setback, Hamilton had moved to second in the championship standings before the race, raising hopes for a title challenge. However, after the Austrian GP, he dropped to third place behind Russell and teammate Kimi Antonelli, who leads the championship.
