Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called on the United States to support Lebanon following a significant agreement with Israel, mediated by Washington. In a message to President Donald Trump on July 4, 2026, Aoun emphasized the need for the US to stand by Lebanon’s rights and its institutions.
Lebanon and Israel Sign Landmark Peace Agreement
On June 20, 2026, Israel and Lebanon signed a framework deal aimed at permanently ending hostilities, particularly regarding the Hezbollah armed group in southern Lebanon. The agreement includes provisions for the disarmament of Hezbollah, a phased Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, and the deployment of the Lebanese army to maintain peace in key areas.
Despite the agreement, Hezbollah has rejected the deal, citing the absence of a timeline for Israeli withdrawal. This ongoing tension was exacerbated on March 2, when Hezbollah engaged in conflict with Israel, launching rockets in retaliation for the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Since the escalation of conflict, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reported over 4,300 deaths and 12,202 injuries. Social Affairs Minister Haneen Sayed announced plans to assist displaced individuals, including the provision of prefabricated housing and rental assistance.
