Kyiv, Ukraine, suffered a deadly missile attack by Russia early Monday, resulting in at least 12 fatalities and over 50 injuries, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The assault involved numerous ballistic missiles and drones, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced air defense systems for Ukraine.
Details of the Attack on Kyiv
On Monday, Russian forces launched 419 air attacks targeting various locations in Kyiv, utilizing a combination of six Zircon missiles, 23 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, and six Kalibr cruise missiles. Notably, Ukraine's Air Force reported that none of the 23 ballistic missiles were intercepted, indicating a significant gap in the current defense capabilities.
In a statement on X, Ukraine's Air Force also noted that it successfully shot down 326 drones and nearly all but two of the cruise missiles. This situation has intensified calls for more advanced defense systems, particularly the US-made Patriot interceptors.
