Jodie Foster expressed her thoughts on the influence of AI in filmmaking during a discussion at the Aspen Festival of Ideas on July 1, 2026. The acclaimed actress specifically referenced Brad Pitt’s film F1, suggesting it resembled a production created by artificial intelligence.
Foster’s Perspective on AI in Film
During her conversation with former Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton, Foster remarked, “I don’t say this disparagingly — how could I? This movie went on to make millions of dollars.” She highlighted how the film's structure felt formulaic, akin to something a computer might generate.
Foster continued, stating, “I look at a movie like F1 and I’m like, ‘F1 was made by AI.’ Wasn’t it?” She emphasized that the dialogue and character interactions were predictable, mirroring what one would learn in a screenwriting class.
The Impact of AI on Hollywood Creativity
Foster's comments sparked discussions about the role of technology in the entertainment industry. As AI tools become more prevalent, questions arise regarding their impact on creativity and storytelling. Foster argued that while technology can enhance production quality, it may also lead to a homogenization of content.
