Jodie Foster attended the Aspen Ideas Festival on Tuesday, where she discussed the intersection of artificial intelligence and filmmaking with media executive Michael Lynton. The conversation focused on how AI is reshaping the film industry, alongside the impacts of the pandemic and labor strikes on audience behaviors.
Foster's Perspective on AI in Filmmaking
During the discussion, Foster expressed her belief that AI is already influencing the production of films. "We’re already doing that," she noted, referring to the use of technology in acting and filmmaking. She highlighted how advancements like face-swapping technology can enhance performances, stating, "Face-swapping and all the things you guys can do on your iPhone, we can do them even better with real fancy people."
Foster specifically mentioned the film F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, as an example of a movie that seems to embody AI's influence. She remarked, "I’m, like, F1 was made by AI. Wasn’t it? The structure was exactly the structure that you would learn in school." This statement sparked discussions about the creative processes behind modern cinema.
The Success of 'F1' and Its Creative Team
The film F1 has garnered significant acclaim, including four Academy Award nominations and a win for best sound. Kosinski collaborated with Oscar-nominated writer Ehren Kruger and a renowned production team, featuring industry veterans like Jerry Bruckheimer and Lewis Hamilton. Their combined efforts have resulted in a film that has performed exceptionally well at the box office.
