George Condo is returning to Hauser & Wirth less than a year after leaving the gallery, with plans for two exhibitions in 2027. The gallery announced on Wednesday that it will showcase new and historical works by Condo at its locations in Paris and Palo Alto, following his career survey at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris in 2025.
Condo's Resumed Relationship with Hauser & Wirth
After leaving Hauser & Wirth in November 2022, Condo has decided to re-establish his relationship with the gallery, which originally began in 2019. A spokesperson confirmed that Hauser & Wirth will represent Condo worldwide, while he will continue to collaborate with Sprüth Magers. This marks a swift reversal for the artist, who had previously joined Sprüth Magers and Skarstedt after six years with Hauser & Wirth.
Condo expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming exhibitions, stating, “I’m very excited to be looking toward 2027 and my next exhibitions with Hauser & Wirth in distinct locations that hold such resonance and allure for me.” He noted that Paris has inspired him for decades and highlighted the significance of showcasing new work in Palo Alto, “the birthplace of technology.”
Upcoming Exhibitions in Paris and Palo Alto
Hauser & Wirth president Marc Payot remarked on the partnership’s revival, calling the exhibitions “the next chapter in our collaboration.” Payot emphasized the ambition behind the shows, stating, “It’s wonderful to be starting the next chapter in our collaboration with George Condo by planning ambitious shows in places identified with cultural breakthroughs.”
