England's players and coaching staff will share a £19m bonus if they win the World Cup, with the FA allocating approximately half of its £38m prize from FIFA. This financial boost was confirmed on Friday following England's victory in the last-16 match against Mexico, with Harry Kane and his teammates aiming for glory in New York next weekend.
Details of the Bonus Structure
According to the Guardian, the bonus scheme includes £15m for the players, £3m for head coach Thomas Tuchel, and around £1m for his backroom team. This incentive is significantly more than the bonuses offered during the 2022 World Cup, reflecting the FA's willingness to reward success.
The increase in potential bonuses stems partly from the FA's response to the England Lionesses, who highlighted a bonus dispute prior to their 2023 World Cup campaign. After their successful run to the final, the FA opted to enhance the men's bonus structure, recognizing the importance of equitable compensation.
Impact of FIFA's Increased Prize Money
FIFA has raised the total prize money for the World Cup by 50%, reaching $655m (£488m) for the 2026 tournament. The winners will receive $50m, a significant increase from the $32m awarded in 2022. However, this prize pool must now be divided among 48 participating nations instead of 32.
