The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival kicked off its 60th anniversary celebrations on Friday in the Czech spa town, honoring notable figures in cinema. Dustin Hoffman received the prestigious Crystal Globe for his artistic contributions, while Maggie Gyllenhaal was awarded the President's Award, both captivating the audience with heartfelt speeches.

During the opening night festivities, Dustin Hoffman was celebrated for his remarkable career spanning decades. The nearly 89-year-old actor was met with a thunderous standing ovation as he took the stage at the Grand Hall of the Hotel Thermal. Hoffman expressed gratitude for the honor, stating, “I am honored and humbled by this award.”
Reflecting on his journey through film, Hoffman shared an anecdote involving Robert Redford, emphasizing the importance of being present in the moment while creating art. He remarked, “The pleasure of doing what we do is being engrossed in the work itself and losing track of time.” His emotional tribute highlighted the significance of film festivals in nurturing young talent.

Maggie Gyllenhaal also captivated the crowd with her warm acceptance speech. This year marks two decades since she won a competitive award at KVIFF for her role in Sherrybaby. Gyllenhaal recalled her previous visits to Karlovy Vary, sharing memories of her time studying abroad in Prague.
