Edwards, originally from Oakland, Ore., served as the commanding officer of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 5 and went missing after his MH-60S Seahawk helicopter made an emergency landing.

Cmdr. Edwards was reported missing earlier this month after his helicopter encountered difficulties during a mission. The search and rescue operations conducted by the Navy spanned several days but ultimately did not yield any signs of the missing airman.
