The Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has publicly criticized Meta for its new AI platform, Muse Image, which allows users to create AI-generated photos using public Instagram accounts. The announcement was made on July 8, 2026, highlighting concerns over privacy and copyright risks associated with the platform's opt-out policy.
CAA's Concerns Over Muse Image's Opt-Out Policy
CAA expressed their apprehension regarding the privacy implications of Muse Image, which enables users to generate images by simply entering an Instagram handle. According to their statement, users must proactively opt out if they do not wish for their content to be utilized by others. This policy raises significant concerns for many individuals who may not be aware of the potential misuse of their public profiles.
Under the current system, only users with private accounts or those under the age of 18 are automatically opted out of the service. CAA argues that this creates unnecessary risks for users, as it places the burden of privacy management on individuals rather than allowing them to choose to participate.
Call for Policy Change from CAA
CAA, representing high-profile clients such as Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Zendaya, and Meryl Streep, has urged Meta to revise its policy. They recommend that users should be automatically opted out of Muse Image by default, with the option to grant access if they choose.
