Burnley has appointed Nicky Hayen as their new head coach on a three-year deal, following the departure of Scott Parker. The announcement was made on July 10, 2026, as the club seeks to stabilize after suffering relegation from the Premier League.
Nicky Hayen's Background and Previous Success
The 45-year-old Belgian coach comes to Burnley after a stint at Genk, where he led the team to a seventh-place finish in the Belgian top flight. Previously, he achieved notable success with Club Brugge, winning the Jupiler League title in the 2023-24 season and guiding them to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Hayen expressed enthusiasm about joining Burnley, stating, "I'm pleased to be joining a club with real history and supporters who care deeply about it." His appointment follows a failed attempt to hire Craig Bellamy, the men's national team head coach of Wales, during negotiations.
Challenges Ahead for Burnley
Since their relegation in the 2021-22 season, Burnley has struggled with consistency, alternating between promotion and relegation under previous managers. Chairman Alan Pace emphasized the need for stability, saying, "In Nicky, we have a coach who builds teams with a clear identity and improves the players around him." This sentiment reflects the club's intent to return to the Premier League on solid foundations.
