A devastating fire at a popular pub in northern Bangkok occurred on July 12, 2026, resulting in the tragic deaths of 27 people and injuries to 73 others. According to Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the incident raised serious concerns about potential negligence, particularly regarding obstructed emergency exits as patrons attempted to escape the flames.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The fire broke out close to midnight at the Na Ladprao pub. Eyewitness accounts reveal chaos as thick smoke enveloped the venue. “Twenty-seven bodies were moved out, lifeless bodies,” said Anutin in a press conference. Reports indicate that many victims were found in the pub's restrooms, having been unable to escape in time.
Emergency responders took approximately half an hour to control the blaze, which was exacerbated by a suspected electrical short circuit. A musician performing at the pub noted seeing smoke from a circuit breaker before the explosion occurred, leading to a rapid evacuation attempt.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire and possible negligence. Initial assessments suggest that an electrical fault in a ceiling air conditioner may have ignited the flames. Police are also looking into whether exit doors were obstructed, with one reportedly blocked by a shelf.
