At least 32 people died and 16 others were injured when an overcrowded passenger bus plunged into a ravine in south-western Pakistan on July 3, 2026. The bus, which was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, crashed in the Dana Sar mountain range around 08:00 local time (03:00 GMT) on Friday.
Details of the Bus Accident
A government official at Zhob Hospital confirmed that there were 48 individuals aboard the bus, including women and children, at the time of the incident. The bus reportedly fell 70 to 80 feet (21-24 meters) into the ravine. Initial investigations suggest that a steering fault may have caused the driver to lose control and skid off the mountain.
Photographs from the scene depict the bus in a severely damaged state following its plunge. Emergency responders and ambulances were dispatched to assist, although recovery efforts faced challenges due to the difficult terrain.
Response from Officials
The injured were transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Zhob, approximately 68 km (42 miles) from the crash site. Shahid Rind, spokesperson for Balochistan's Chief Minister, indicated that the bus was overcrowded after taking on additional passengers from a broken-down vehicle.
