Former France international Youri Djorkaeff recently reflected on his extraordinary career, highlighting his experiences playing alongside two legendary footballers, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo. In an interview, Djorkaeff emphasized that while he formed a remarkable partnership with Zidane, he firmly believes that Ronaldo was the superior player.
Youri Djorkaeff's Legacy with Zidane
Djorkaeff and Zidane played together for the French national team 49 times, achieving remarkable success during their tenure. Their collaboration led to France's historic victory in the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship. Djorkaeff noted, “It was extremely easy playing next to Zidane,” acknowledging the significance of Zidane’s role as a key organizer in the midfield.
Djorkaeff praised Zidane's ability to link the team's defense and attack, stating, “With his talent and vision, he was the link between the defence and frontline.” He added, “I was more a final-third player – I scored many goals from his assists, he scored quite a few from mine.” Their synergy was a defining feature of that era in football.
Ronaldo's Impact at Inter Milan
During his club career, Djorkaeff also had the opportunity to play alongside Ronaldo at Inter Milan from 1997 to 1999, where the duo appeared together 53 times. Djorkaeff recalls the impact Ronaldo had on the team, asserting that he was an exceptional talent. “It may sound hard to believe, but the answer is simple: Ronaldo,” Djorkaeff stated when discussing the comparison between his two teammates.
