On July 3, 2026, Yemen's Houthis threatened to target Saudi Arabia's airports and critical assets following accusations of an airspace violation by the kingdom. The Iran-aligned group claimed they confronted Saudi warplanes attempting to obstruct an Iranian civilian aircraft from landing at Sanaa International Airport.
Houthi Claims of Airspace Violation
In a video statement, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree warned, "We warn the criminal Saudi enemy against repeating any attempt to violate our airspace or any aggression targeting our country." Saree emphasized that such actions would lead to a comprehensive response aimed at Saudi airports and vital interests.
According to the Houthis, the Saudi warplanes attempted to "infiltrate" Houthi-controlled airspace at 5:20 AM (02:20 GMT) to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing, which was reportedly carrying over 200 stranded, wounded, and sick citizens.
Continued Flights Amid Tensions
Despite the escalating tensions, Saree announced that flights between Houthi-controlled Sanaa and Tehran would proceed. He stated, "Flights will continue despite any possible consequences," indicating the Houthis' readiness for any options necessary to break the Saudi-American blockade.
