Xreal's new A01 Plus AR glasses, priced at $299, are a lighter and more affordable alternative to the $449 1S model, offering essential features for casual users. Released on July 10, 2026, these glasses aim to provide a satisfactory augmented reality experience without breaking the bank.
Design and Build Quality of the A01 Plus
The A01 Plus weighs only 62 grams, making them significantly lighter than the 1S, which is over 20 grams heavier. However, this reduction in weight comes with a trade-off in durability. The frame feels flimsier, and users must handle the temple arms gently to avoid damaging the delicate micro OLED panels and modular eyeglasses shell.
Xreal has included a modular blue-tinted glasses shell that blocks light from all sides, enhancing outdoor usability compared to the 1S. The customization options are a standout feature, allowing users to swap covers, even with future 3D printed designs. Removing these covers requires careful handling, which may feel risky until users become accustomed to the process.
Performance and Features of the A01 Plus
Despite being a stripped-down version of the 1S, the A01 Plus delivers impressive performance with a 1080p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and bright, contrast-rich displays. However, initial impressions may be mixed due to blurriness, which can be corrected by using prescription lenses that cost around $50.
