Wayne Rooney has voiced serious concerns about England's prospects in their upcoming match against Mexico on Sunday after a shaky display against DR Congo. Rooney emphasized that if Thomas Tuchel does not address the issues in the squad, England could face significant challenges in the knockout stages.
Concerns about England's Performance
In a recent match, England struggled to find their rhythm, trailing early to DR Congo before ultimately winning the game. Rooney commented on the performance, stating, "For me there are big concerns. We are all delighted England have gone through - but in particular, when England lose the ball, they are so open."
Despite a late comeback, highlighted by two goals from Harry Kane, the overall performance left much to be desired. Rooney pointed out the lack of connection between the backline and midfield, which could be detrimental against stronger teams.
Key Areas for Improvement
Rooney pinpointed specific weaknesses in the squad, particularly the full-backs and wingers. He noted, "The connection isn't great between the backline and midfield, the full-backs are struggling, [Noni] Madueke struggled." This lack of cohesion could prove costly in their next match.
