Venezuelans Recount Their Ordeal After Devastating Earthquakes
In a heart-wrenching series of events, the northern coast of Venezuela experienced powerful earthquakes on Wednesday, resulting in widespread destruction and loss of life. Residents in the capital city of Caracas, as well as in coastal towns, rushed into the streets as buildings trembled and collapsed around them.
Fear Grips the Nation
18-year-old Sebastian Rodríguez, who helps his family run a shop in the affluent Los Palos Grandes neighborhood's Centro Plaza, described the terrifying moment when the earthquakes struck. "It was horrible. I felt like the house was moving to a different rhythm to the earth. I had to carry my mum out. She was paralysed by fear," he recalled, sharing a glimpse of the panic that engulfed many as they faced the sudden tremors.
The Impact of the Quakes
The earthquakes have been reported to have claimed at least 164 lives, with countless others injured. The scale of destruction has left many in shock as they navigate the aftermath of this natural disaster. Buildings that once stood tall are now reduced to rubble, and the fear of aftershocks has left residents on edge.
