In the aftermath of the earthquakes, communities in La Guaira and Caracas have come together to assist those affected. Many citizens have transformed family WhatsApp groups into fundraising platforms, while artists have organized search efforts and mutual aid networks. Gloria Blancato, an artist who survived the disaster, shared her emotional plea with friends, saying, “I love you, don’t forget me.”
The artistic community's response has been heartwarming. Francisco Schutte, a fellow artist, noted the collective effort to rescue trapped individuals, stating, “It was a beautiful effort, it came from the heart.”
Tragic Losses and Resilience
Among the casualties was beloved painter Onai Quiñonez, who was trapped under rubble, prompting friends and family to rally for his rescue. Unfortunately, sources confirmed he did not survive. A poignant moment was captured by artist Michael Wong, showing Quiñonez’s father holding one of his son's recovered canvases.
