On Saturday, July 5, 2026, in Colorado Springs, 33 new recruits were sworn in at the Air Force Academy's Falcon Stadium during the PBR Space Cowboys event. This unique rodeo, co-sponsored by Space Force and US Border Patrol, aimed to boost military recruitment while celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
Recruitment Strategies of US Border Patrol
The US Border Patrol, under President Donald Trump’s directive, has intensified recruitment efforts to combat immigration challenges. Trump mandated the hiring of 3,000 new agents and allocated $70 billion to border security, with $26 billion specifically for Border Patrol. These efforts have resulted in a historic increase in recruitment numbers.
During the PBR event, the Border Patrol set up a recruitment tent and SUV in the Fan Zone, attracting attendees. The agency recently announced it has surpassed 21,000 agents for the first time since its inception in 1924. Sean Gleason, CEO of Professional Bull Riders, highlighted the event's alignment with military values, stating, "Our cowboys... believe in hard work, honesty, integrity... that’s what it takes to be in the military or in the US Border Patrol."
Increased Interest in Border Patrol Careers
Many attendees, including 18-year-old Cody Price, expressed newfound interest in Border Patrol. Price, who deferred university acceptance, noted that Border Patrol does not disqualify individuals with asthma, unlike the military. He remarked, "I looked into the military for a long time... it was good to see what kind of opportunities are out there."
