This initiative targeted illegal trade and involved 57 migrants who had crossed the Channel by boat. The operation, coordinated by the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC), also seized over £1 million in cash and illegal goods valued at more than £700,000.
Details of the Operation Against Organised Immigration Crime
The NPCC reported that the crackdown focused on businesses often exploited by criminal gangs, including barber shops, vape shops, car washes, food production facilities, and nail salons. These establishments are known to provide opportunities for concealing illegal work and exploiting vulnerable migrants. The operation saw participation from multiple UK police forces, the Home Office, Immigration Enforcement, and Trading Standards.
Deputy Chief Constable Wendy Gunney, who leads the NPCC's organised immigration crime domestic taskforce, stated, "This multi-agency activity sends a clear message to organised crime gangs that law enforcement agencies are working together to tackle illegal trade within our communities, and to bring offenders to justice."
