On Monday, June 29, President Donald J. Trump posted an AI-generated image of a golden bald eagle on the Truman balcony of the White House. The image, shared on Truth Social and later on Instagram, marks what Trump calls a "Golden Gift to the White House for its 250th Birthday Year!" However, the post has raised eyebrows due to several inaccuracies.
AI-Generated Image Sparks Debate
The image, reportedly created using Google AI, features a golden eagle clutching a stars-and-stripes shield. Yet, the shield displays only 11 stars instead of the customary 13, representing the original British colonies. Additionally, the balcony's railing in the image differs from the actual railing, raising questions about its authenticity.
Photographer Andrew Leyden tweeted a photo of the Truman Balcony shortly after Trump’s post, confirming that no eagle was present at 9:30 p.m. that night. Leyden's post serves as further evidence that the image is not a true representation of the White House.
Fact-Checking Trump's Claims
Trump's caption also contains a factual error. While this week marks the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding, it is not the White House's 250th birthday, which will occur in 2050. USA Today noted this discrepancy, emphasizing the importance of accurate historical context.
