Tomi Adeyemi has expressed her decision not to watch the film adaptation of her bestselling novel Children of Blood and Bone, set to release on January 15, 2027. In a recent social media post, Adeyemi shared her feelings about the upcoming movie produced by Paramount Pictures, which is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
Tomi Adeyemi's Concerns About the Film
In a TikTok video posted on Saturday, Adeyemi addressed her fans, explaining, "There is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work. That’s all." This statement followed a previous message sent to actress Amandla Stenberg, who plays Princess Amari in the film, where Adeyemi requested, "Do not ever use my name in an interview or video again. Do not text me. Do not call me." The screenshot indicated that Adeyemi had blocked Stenberg, who is known for her roles in The Hunger Games and The Hate U Give.
Background on the Film Adaptation
The film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone features a star-studded cast including Thuso Mbedu, Tosin Cole, Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Regina King, Idris Elba, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Adeyemi serves as an executive producer and co-writer alongside Prince-Bythewood. The film is based on the first book of Adeyemi's Legacy of Orïsha trilogy, which follows a young woman on a quest to reclaim magic stolen from her people.
