A tragic incident occurred on Thursday in northeastern Thailand when a child drove his parents' pickup truck into a group of Buddhist monks on a pilgrimage, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals. Local authorities reported that five people died at the scene, while three succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
Details of the Incident in Mukdahan
The accident took place in Mukdahan province, located about 600 kilometers northeast of Bangkok. The group of 35 monks and five lay followers were walking along a pilgrimage path near the Phu Manorom temple when the pickup truck lost balance and veered off the road, crashing into them. Local police confirmed that the child driver is currently in custody as an investigation into the incident is underway.
Casualties and Injuries Reported
According to Mukdahan province's Governor Waorrayan Boonarat, the crash has resulted in significant casualties. In addition to the eight fatalities, 14 other individuals sustained injuries. The monks, who were on a spiritual journey, were resting at the temple after the incident. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle appeared to lose control moments before the collision.
