On July 9, 2026, a study published in Psychology of Violence revealed that parents direct more threats toward school administrators than teachers. Researchers from Ohio State University surveyed school personnel before, during, and after COVID-19 restrictions, uncovering alarming trends in parental aggression.
Parental Aggression Toward School Officials
According to the research led by Eric Anderman, a professor at Ohio State, 77% of school administrators reported experiencing verbal or threatening aggression from parents after COVID restrictions were lifted. This figure is nearly 3.5 times higher than the rate reported by teachers.
The study highlights that parental aggression persisted even during the height of COVID lockdowns, with 42% of administrators indicating they faced similar threats while schools were closed.
Impacts of Aggression on Educators
Anderman's findings reflect a broader issue within the educational system. The data revealed that over 1 in 4 teachers reported public humiliation or cyberbullying by parents after restrictions were lifted. For administrators, more than 40% faced verbal threats, with about 20% experiencing public humiliation or cyberbullying.
