Russians are expressing unprecedented pessimism about their economy, with a recent Gallup survey revealing that concerns over living standards have reached a two-decade high. This survey, published on Tuesday, highlights a growing sentiment among the populace that their quality of life is deteriorating.
Survey Findings on Economic Outlook
The Gallup survey indicates that a significant majority of Russians believe their living standards are worsening. According to the report, this pessimism is the highest recorded in the last 20 years, suggesting a deepening discontent with the current state of the economy.
Konstantin Sonin, a prominent economist and John Dewey Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago, commented on the findings, stating, "Putin doesn't care much about the quality of living of Russians." This perspective underscores a disconnect between governmental policies and the everyday realities faced by citizens.
