Rivian announced on Thursday that it expects to deliver between 65,000 and 70,000 electric vehicles (EVs) this year, an increase from its previous estimate of 62,000 to 67,000. This optimistic outlook comes despite challenges facing the EV market in the U.S., including changes in federal tax incentives.
Rivian's Production and Delivery Performance
In the second quarter, Rivian built 12,613 vehicles and delivered 12,194, exceeding its expectations of 9,000 to 11,000 deliveries. This performance has boosted investor confidence as the company navigates a cooling EV sales environment.
The company credits its success to “robust growth quarter-over-quarter in EDV and R1, coupled with the introduction of R2 deliveries.” Rivian's electric commercial van, the EDV, and the R1 series have shown significant demand.
Expectations for the New R2 SUV
The new R2 SUV, which launched last month with a starting price of around $58,000, is expected to play a crucial role in Rivian's sales strategy. While Rivian has not disclosed specific sales targets for the R2, CFO Claire McDonough mentioned a potential range of 20,000 to 25,000 units this year.
