Portugal's Football Federation is actively seeking a new head coach following the departure of Roberto Martinez after their World Cup elimination. Sources indicate that Jorge Jesus, a seasoned coach, is the leading candidate to take over the national team. The announcement is expected by the end of the week.
Portugal's Coaching Search Intensifies
On Wednesday, the Portuguese FA confirmed that Martinez would not continue after his contract ended following the team's exit in the round of 16 against Spain. Pedro Proença, president of the FPF, expressed the urgency of appointing a successor who understands Portuguese soccer and shares the federation's ambitions.
Proença stated, "The coach must be someone who knows Portuguese soccer well and identifies with the winning mindset of the federation and the national team." He aims to finalize the decision swiftly, with hopes of having concrete news soon.

Jorge Jesus, 71, is currently a free agent after leaving Al Nassr in May, where he led the team to a Saudi Pro League title. His extensive coaching history includes notable success with Benfica, where he won 10 trophies, including three Primeira Liga titles.
