Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned on July 3, 2026 that the upcoming months could be crucial due to potential military provocations from Russia. Tusk's comments followed reports from US intelligence suggesting that Moscow might plan an armed incident in Poland to test NATO's resolve.
Poland Prepares for Possible Threats
During a press briefing, Tusk stated, "I don't mean to scare anyone but the coming months may truly be critical, also due to the changing nature of the war." He emphasized the heightened concerns particularly affecting the Baltic states. Reports from the Polish news outlet Onet indicated that the US has issued multiple warnings to Warsaw about a possible attack plan.
The alleged plans suggest that Polish infrastructure could be targeted by missiles or drones, with the intent to pressure Ukraine's Western allies to halt support during its ongoing conflict with Russia. Tusk remarked, "We are preparing for various situations, but we cannot ignore them... We are aware of the threats, also thanks to information from our allies."
NATO Summit and Defense Spending
President Karol Nawrocki is expected to attend a NATO summit in Turkey next week, where leaders will discuss defense strategies and military spending. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte indicated that the summit will demonstrate European commitment to increasing defense budgets, in line with calls from US President Donald Trump.
