A leaked photograph of a blindfolded Palestinian detainee, stripped to his underwear and restrained, has caused deep anguish for two mothers in Gaza. The image, acknowledged as genuine by the Israeli military, has left the families of the detainees desperate for answers regarding their missing sons. The incident, which surfaced on social media, raises significant concerns about the treatment of Palestinians in Israeli custody.
Details of the Disturbing Photograph
The disturbing photo shows a man in Israeli custody, blindfolded and severely restrained. His hands are bound behind his back, and his right foot is tied to the bottom corner of a cot. A wooden rod is affixed to his body, stretching from his foot to his neck, with his face mostly obscured. The image was originally posted on Instagram, but the user's account has since been deleted.
The Israeli military confirmed the authenticity of the photograph, stating that an inquiry is underway. A spokesperson declared, “those involved will be dealt with in accordance with the findings,” emphasizing that the treatment depicted does not align with military values.
Mothers' Heartbreaking Recognition
Rana Abu Nassar, the mother of Palestinian prisoner Osama Abu Nassar, expressed her anguish upon seeing the image. “I know the details of his body. He has swelling in his foot and scars on his leg – the same swelling on his left leg I saw in the picture,” she told Reuters. Osama was arrested in March 2023, alongside his one-year-old son, who was later released with burn marks on his legs. Abu Nassar contends that her son suffers from mental health issues, questioning the circumstances of his arrest.
