Angry parents have raised concerns regarding Caity Baser's performance at the Youth Beatz festival in Dumfries on July 1, 2026. The 22-year-old singer reportedly used explicit language and made sexual references while performing for an audience that included children as young as seven years old. Baser's comments have sparked outrage among parents, leading to a small number of complaints to Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Concerns Over Explicit Language at Youth Music Festival
Parents expressed their dissatisfaction with Baser's set, which was not deemed appropriate for the festival's target audience of young people aged 12 to 25. One parent, Annmarie Dowell, stated, "What shocked me more than anything was openly asking a crowd of teenagers to raise their hands if they’d had sex with a friend. Completely inappropriate." She expected Baser to perform radio edits of her songs, considering the young audience.
Another mother, who chose to remain anonymous, described her shock at the explicit language used during the performance. She attended the festival with her seven-year-old daughter and decided to leave halfway through the set, questioning the appropriateness of booking Baser for such an event.
Dumfries and Galloway Council Responds to Complaints
Dumfries and Galloway Council acknowledged receiving a small number of complaints about the performance, emphasizing that they take such concerns seriously. A council spokesperson stated, "While every effort is made to ensure performances are appropriate for the event, live performances are not entirely within the council's control." The council highlighted that the majority of feedback from the weekend was positive, describing the event as successful.
