Nick Kyrgios made headlines during his return to Wimbledon as he swore at an umpire following a defeat in the men's doubles. This match, held recently, marked his first appearance at the All England Club since losing the 2022 final to Novak Djokovic, amid ongoing injury challenges.
Kyrgios and Bublik's Doubles Match Outcome
Competing alongside Alexander Bublik, Kyrgios faced the sixth seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic, ultimately losing with a score of 6-3, 6-4. The defeat came after Kyrgios had his serve broken early in the second set, leading to a heated exchange with the umpire.
The French umpire Manuel Absolu addressed Kyrgios during the match, prompting the Australian to respond, "Honestly, at this point you can fine me, I honestly don't even care. You can fine me. All these rules are so dumb anyway." Kyrgios has previously faced fines at Wimbledon, totaling £14,500 for various infractions, including swearing.
Kyrgios' Injury Struggles and Ranking
The 31-year-old tennis star, currently ranked 899 in the world, has been battling knee and wrist injuries that have impacted his performance. His last ATP Tour-level victory was in March 2025 at the Stuttgart Open, making this Wimbledon appearance a significant return.
