Neon, the acclaimed indie distributor, is reportedly planning a launch in the U.K. as early as this month, according to sources. The U.S.-based company, known for its collection of Palme d'Or winners and Oscar best picture accolades, has engaged former Studiocanal U.K. head Danny Perkins to consult on establishing its U.K. operations.
Neon's Expansion into the U.K. Market
Neon has built a reputation for successfully distributing critically acclaimed films, including Parasite and Anora. The company has made recent strides by acquiring U.K. rights for several films, a move that indicates its commitment to expanding its footprint across the Atlantic.
Sources suggest that Neon is not only looking to distribute films in the U.K. but is also interested in collaborating with local partners. For instance, Picturehouse is set to release Neon's Cannes titles Fjord and Sheep in the Box in the U.K. This collaborative approach could enhance Neon's ability to penetrate the competitive U.K. market.
Acquisition of U.K. Rights for Major Films
In its recent acquisitions, Neon has included U.K. rights in its deals alongside those for North America. The company's strategy reflects a broader trend where international rights are becoming increasingly integrated into distribution agreements.
