Patrick Spencer, the MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, is on trial at Southwark Crown Court for allegedly groping the breasts of two women without their consent. The alleged incidents occurred on August 12, 2023, at London’s Groucho Club, where Spencer reportedly approached the women while intoxicated.
Details of the Allegations Against Spencer
The trial, which began on July 13, 2026, has heard testimonies that Spencer, who was described as drunk, approached the women and touched them inappropriately. Prosecutor Polly Dyer stated that the women did not know Spencer prior to the incident, and he allegedly wrapped his arms around them before groping their breasts.
According to Dyer, the first victim recounted how a man she did not know attempted to engage her in conversation and insisted she accept a drink he had purchased. After initially declining, she sipped the drink to appease him, only to later find herself surprised when he touched her breasts.
CCTV Evidence and Spencer's Defense
CCTV footage shown to the jury depicted Spencer appearing unsteady on his feet before the incidents. The second victim also described Spencer as being drunk and reported a similar experience, where he reached around her from behind and touched her breasts.
