Michail Antonio, the Jamaican striker, shared his experience of a life-threatening car crash that occurred in December 2024, which almost derailed his football career. Just six months later, he made a remarkable comeback during a Gold Cup match against Guatemala on June 17, 2025.
Details of the Car Crash
Antonio revealed he has no memory of the crash itself, stating, "I have no memory of it." He was found by a dog walker who alerted first responders. Upon their arrival, they discovered him in the back of the car, severely injured with one leg shattered and a quarter smaller than the other.
After the accident, he was taken to the Royal London Hospital, known for its expertise in emergency surgeries. Antonio expressed gratitude for the skilled surgeon who operated on his leg, which he believes was crucial for his ability to return to the pitch.
Emotional Aftermath and Family Impact
Antonio reflected on the emotional toll the accident had on his family, stating, "As much as I was the one who was in the accident, it was my family who actually lived it." He emphasized the pain his loved ones endured as they received distressing updates and photos of the crash.
