Antonio revealed he has no memory of the crash itself, stating, "I have no memory of it." He was found by a dog walker who alerted first responders. Upon their arrival, they discovered him in the back of the car, severely injured with one leg shattered and a quarter smaller than the other.

After the accident, he was taken to the Royal London Hospital, known for its expertise in emergency surgeries. Antonio expressed gratitude for the skilled surgeon who operated on his leg, which he believes was crucial for his ability to return to the pitch.

Emotional Aftermath and Family Impact

Antonio reflected on the emotional toll the accident had on his family, stating, "As much as I was the one who was in the accident, it was my family who actually lived it." He emphasized the pain his loved ones endured as they received distressing updates and photos of the crash.

Visiting the wrecked car later hit him hard emotionally. He recalled, "It made me emotional and believe that, honestly, I could have not been here today." This realization strengthened his resolve to recover and return to football.

Despite his contract with West Ham expiring at the end of June 2025, the club supported him through his rehabilitation process. Antonio's return to competitive play was marked by his appearance as an 85th-minute substitute for Jamaica, a moment he described as "amazing" and fulfilling.

He noted, "I actually shocked myself with how fast I was able to do it," highlighting the urgency to prove his fitness after the club chose not to renew his contract.
