Owners of Meta's AI glasses learned on Thursday that they now need to pay a monthly fee to access the "Conversation Focus" feature, which enhances audio for conversations. Previously free, users must pay $19.99 monthly to use this feature beyond a three-hour monthly limit. This change is part of Meta's broader strategy to experiment with subscription models for select features.
Subscription Details for Meta Glasses Users
Meta's spokesperson confirmed that the subscription model aims to cater to "power users" who require extensive access and premium device support. Users who do not subscribe will still have access to other AI features like live translation and voice assistance without charge. The subscription service allows users to utilize Conversation Focus for up to 15 hours each month.
Despite the introduction of the paywall, the majority of Meta glasses users are not expected to be affected significantly. The subscription model is designed for those who frequently rely on this feature, while casual users can still enjoy limited free access.
Concerns and Feedback from Users
Some users have expressed dissatisfaction with the paywall. One user commented, "Putting Conversation Focus behind a paywall feels wrong. I would gladly subscribe to Meta One, but only if it genuinely offers unlimited access." This sentiment highlights the frustration among users who feel that essential features should remain free.
